Each month, the Arkansas Center for the Book challenges readers to read a book that fits into a new theme. Free and open to all ages, participants can read as many or as few of the selected themes. The Center encourages families and book clubs to read together!

The Arkansas Center for the Book has selected reading themes for each month of 2026. How many of these themes will you dive into this year? Share your thoughts and reflections on the books you choose as you embark on this year-long reading adventure!

2026 Reading Themes
  • January – Read a book recommended by friends or family.
  • February – Cozy up with a classic!
  • March – Celebrate National Reading Month with a book by your favorite author.
  • April – The first shots of the Revolutionary War were in April 1775. Read a book about the American Revolution.
  • May – Unearth a Story about dinosaurs/archaeology/paleontology!
  • June – Arkansas became a state on June 15, 1836. Read a book about Arkansas or by an Arkansas author. For inspiration, check out Arkansas Gems!
  • July – To celebrate the Semiquincentennial, read a book about the founding era of the United States.
  • September – Read a book from the National Book Festival’s Great Reads list.
  • October – Read a book in a genre that you don’t usually read.
  • November – Read a book with a food-related theme and maybe try a new recipe!
  • December – Read a prize winner!
