Join Readers’ Advisory expert Lila Denning for an hour of how you can develop your readers advisory skills to help readers looking for mysteries. You will learn what is a mystery and how it is different than other kinds of crime fiction. She will show how to help your patrons find their next great read by focusing on what appeals most to them including subgenre, theme, and other appeal factors.
As a result of this program, attendees will learn how to:
- Understand the basic features of a mystery as well as the major subgenres, appeals, and themes
- Identify resources for finding mysteries in a variety of subgenres
- Discover the major literary awards for mysteries as well as how they can help in your Readers Advisory efforts
- Learn titles and authors to get you started in your own investigation into the world of mystery fiction

Lila Denning — Biography
Lila Denning is a librarian in Florida specializing in Passive Readers Advisory for patrons of all ages. She is the acquisitions coordinator for the St Petersburg Library System and has worked in circulation, reference, and youth services. She serves as the volunteer coordinator for the Horror Writers Association.
